The current traffic calming measures on Queen Mary Rd / Johnson St (between Bath Rd and Portsmouth Ave. do not seem to be working. I have noticed that vehicles do not tend to slow down on these speed cushions due to the fact that some vehicles wheelbase allows it to go very easily over the edges of the bump. I have also seen people go to the bicycle lane to avoid these bumps. I may also add that the bumps are smoother that the rest of the road. The way I will handle this is when I am out campaigning I will ask each person what they would prefer. My ideas are
- remove the bumps completely
- extend then the entire width of the road
- replace with stop signs
UPDATE: It is my understanding that these speed humps will be extended fully in the fall. Hopefully the rest of the road will also be smoothed.

This street is a main artery in Kingston ( whether the residence like it or not) and Shouldn’t be tampered with. These bumps aren’t being used for “calming” but are there as a traffic deterent so people will use portsmouth Ave or Sir john A. The light timing at bath and queen mary is horrable for this reason.
Remove the bumps and have police inforce the speedlimit

First a disclaimer. I live on Queen Mary Rd.
I agree with you 100%. These speed humps do not do the intended job. From what I understand, Queen Mary Rd is not officially designated as a major thoroughfare. From the traffic I have seen, it should be upgraded to a major road. Also, that section is in serious need of repair. I would like for this road to be without any humps / cushions and have it resurfaced. I would like others to comment on this please. Now some bad news, I understand that they will be making the humps all the way across the road some time in November. Lets hope they change their mind.

There are 2 other options
1. remove the speed bumps and get photo radar back
2. remove the speed bumps and hire more traffice cops to patrol the specific areas all day every day. Not only would the speed decrease but we would have safer neighbourhoods and the officers would pay for themselves with the tickets

I would go along with removing the speed bumps and have the police do patrols in this area. All day and everyday is not realistic. It would have to done randomly. Also with all day everyday you probably would not issue too may tickets as one would eventually know where speed traps would be. As for photo-radar, I am opposed to it because the driver may not be the actual registered owner. Photo radar would have to prove who the driver actually is. There are times when my wife may drive my car and vice – versa
